Wust Summer School for English Language,
Literature, Theatre and Music
located East of Berlin Germany is looking to recruit enthusiastic Brown students
as instructors of English for the summer
of 2018.
For the first time, Brown University is able to sponsor students interested in this internship. Students will receive $2200 to cover travel expenses and a stipend. The Sommerschule will pay for your room and board (breakfast and a light evening meal) with host families, who are all very welcoming but who rarely speak English.
WHY? You can live in Germany with a host family for almost 5 weeks. You get to use your German with the campers who range in age from 7 to 70. You get your flight paid to Europe and you are welcome to arrive early or stay late to study or travel around Germany and Europe!
WHEN? You arrive in Wust no later than Thursday, July 5, and leave on Sunday, Aug. 5.
WHERE? Now in its 28th year, the summer school takes place in the charming village of Wust in former East Germany about an hour west of Berlin, near the city of Tangermünde which is home to a 14th century castle and fortress and close to the River Elbe.
WHO? Enthusiastic, energetic, multi-talented students. Experience with teaching English or anything else is preferred but not required. Experience with theater, music, sports, cooking, all is welcome! Excellent English skills and at least conversational knowledge of German are required. Your fellow teachers (about 18 total) will come from major universities in the US and in England.
WHAT? You will teach 2 hours of ESL classes in the morning and in the afternoon, you will lead workshops that can focus on just about anything, from sports to Shakespeare, choir to history, film to politics, debating to grammar games. You’ll have a great time at the social events in the evenings, or rehearsing for the bilingual play, and you can easily travel to Berlin, Leipzig, Dresden, and other destinations on weekends.
HOW? To apply, please send your resume and a cover letter (in English) that explains why you want to work at the Sommerschule, what qualifications you will bring with you, and how you would contribute to the workshops and extra-curriculars. You will also need one letter of reference. Send your application to Professor Jane Sokolosky (Jane_Sokolosky@Brown.edu) as soon as possible and no later than February 1, 2018. Your recommender should send the letter to Frau Sok directly.
